Our cats have moved out of that cute kitten stage where they'll do anything for a bit of attention and into that cat stage where we're chasing them around, trying to get them to pay attention to us. I was really hoping that we'd be able to escape that whole "aloof kitty" thing if we just kept demanding snuggles from them, but apparently it's deeply ingrained in their genetics.

Here, we see Charlie enjoying a lazy Sunday on the couch with my little brother. For about a minute they were both little and cute and huggable and now they're both lazy, smelly teenage boys. Le sigh...

The kittens go to daycare every morning from about 9AM to 1PM. Daycare is otherwise known as my parents' room, to which Newton has been banished because he spent the first two years of his life peeing on everything that would hold still long enough. I was a little worried at first that Newton would feel threaten by the kittens, but he really loves them and he's taught them all sorts of things. Newton also has all of the really good toys, so the kittens run into his room every morning and never look back. Now I know how all those dejected preschool moms feel...

Charlie is sporting his first battle wounds.

We think Scout accidentally got Charlie a little too hard in the face. El gatito is sporting a nasty cut across his cheek and a bump on the nose. I'm debating on taking him in to see the vet. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, but I don't want it to get infected...what do you think?

I spoil Scout because she's my favorite of our cats and being a girlcat needs more affection than boycat Charlie. That being said, she's turning into a bit of a terror...constantly crying to be picked up or destroying things simply because she can. She's also picked up her brother's habit of suckling, which means that all of our efforts towards getting Charlie to stop sucking on us have been 100% ineffective...

Scout's favorite things to do include sucking on the yarn tufts of our quilt, completely unrolling rolls of toilet paper, and chewing/sleeping on my Blackberry Storm. All of these things are things that I'm supposed to stop her from doing, but c'mon...look at how happy she is!

I think I'm raising a feline Veruca Salt.

My hopes for a family of cats and guinea pigs that would play together in harmony have been dashed. The guinea pigs have started to become very nervous around the kittens recently. Can't imagine why...

I took the kitties in last week to get fixed and it's been a slow recovery. The surgery went pretty well, but we've had to deal with drugged kitties because they've been on pain medication. This is Scout right after she got home from the surgery. I tried to get her to lay down or curl up or anything, but she insisted on sitting in this bizarre position and leering at me.

Took the kitties in this morning so that they can get fixed and microchipped. Scout glared at me the entire time, like I had betrayed her in a way that offended the core of her being. Charlie, on the other hand, hung from the bars like he was nailed up and wailed his fuzzy heart out.

I wonder how often in my cat owning life I'm going to be reduced to tears in the parking lot of the veterinary offices...

Oh, these little guys are growing up so fast. I know most people would probably long for the days of kittenhood, but I can't wait until they are giant, full grown cats with huge feet and massive bellies. I have to admit, though, that I miss the baby blues of Charlie's youth...

You know, it's almost impossible to just sit and chill with these bad babies because as soon as we've got one under control, the other is knocking over the food bag or swiping at the guinea pigs or climbing up the window screens. That being said, now that we see daily how much these guys love each other, I can't even imagine life with only one of them. Double the kitties is double the cost (and double the kitty poop!) but it's so, so worth it.

Charlie and Scout are a little obsessed with the windows. I used to think that they were soaking up the mountain vistas, but I'm starting to notice that they aren't watching the skyline as much as they are watching the neighbor's new puppy...like they think he would be delicious...

You know, the cats are really good about the guinea pigs, but every now and then I get the sense that Scout isn't trying to pet them. We might need a Plan B when those kitty arms get a little longer...

Look at that sweet face. This is right after Charlie knocked my water all over my keyboard, kicked over the kitten food, and bit his sister. Face of an angel, isn't it?
